studio red benefit @ lupo's, providence 1/13/94 well, after over a year of pining to see versus live, they end upcancelling the one gig i was able to attend :(. this past thursday at lupo's in providence, i went to see the studio redbenefit. studio red is an indie recording studio in philadelphia that'srun by this guy named adam lasus, aka "red." anyway, a water main brokeon the street outside the studio and flooded the place, destroying most ifnot everything therein... hence, the benefit shows. bands billed that evening were: common thieves, incinerator, the halo bit, versus, helium, gigolo aunts, and scarce. (as i mentioned above, versuscancelled.) (...) helium: runner-up to band of the evening. i've been hooked ever since "theamerican jean" b/w "termite tree" single. the vocalist/guitarist knowswhat she's doing! she plays really well and has an outstanding voice.their set sort of reminded me of when i saw liz phair over the summer whenshe was performing solo... really haunting and very powerful. their latestsingle sort of captures this but the production makes it sound heavierthan their live sound.
